After the Alleluias Fade
There is a quiet that comes after Easter.
The music softens.
The bright banners are gently folded away.
The calendar moves forward, as it always does.
And sometimes, if we are honest, the heart wonders what happens to all that Easter hope once the alleluias grow quieter.
I have noticed that the Lord often does some of His most faithful work not in the celebration itself…
but in the ordinary days that follow.
The first disciples knew something about this.
Resurrection morning was glorious - but then came the walking, the waiting, the learning how to live in the light of what they had witnessed.
Breakfast by the shore.
Long dusty roads.
Questions that were still unfolding.
The miracle had happened.
But the living of it was just beginning.
I think many of us find ourselves there too.
We have known moments of bright assurance.
We have felt the nearness of God in ways that were unmistakable.
And then… life resumes its steady rhythm.
Laundry still waits.
Work still calls.
The small, faithful duties of daily life return to our hands.
But Easter was never meant to live only in the moment of celebration.
It was meant to take root quietly in the middle of ordinary days.
In patience that lasts longer than our feelings.
In hope that holds steady when life feels routine again.
In the gentle remembering that resurrection power did not disappear when the morning ended.
It is still at work.
If this season finds you in the quieter days after the celebration - not discouraged, but simply returned to the ordinary - take heart.
The alleluias may soften.
But the risen Christ has never once stepped away from the daily paths where His people walk.
And sometimes, the most faithful living of Easter happens right here…
after the alleluias fade.
Still walking in resurrection light,
Eden Hartwell
