Some names in scripture carry stories that have grown over time.

Mary Magdalene is one of them.

For many centuries she was often described as a former prostitute. Yet the Bible itself never says this. That idea likely came from a blending of several different women mentioned in the Gospels.

What scripture actually tells us is this:

“Mary called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out.”
-Luke 8:2

She was a woman whose life had been deeply changed by Jesus.

And after that moment, she became one of His most faithful followers.
